"Too many glitches" 2010-01-31
By Sam (Spartanburg, SC)
My kids gave this bread maker to me as a birthday gift and I made my first loaf of bread today. Not impressed. The machine, besides being very noisy to begin with, made a horrible noise several times throughout the process. The bread came out incredibly lopsided and with the kneading paddle completely embedded in the loaf. I couldn't even see it! I had to cut an enormous hole out of the bread to get the paddle out. Not attractive.

The bread itself had no flavor whatsoever, and I followed the recipe for white bread exactly. It didn't call for salt, which I thought was odd, but I followed the recipe and wished I'd tweaked it before I turned the machine on. It definitely could have used a little something.

The bread pan is extremely difficult to remove and it isn't too easy to place in the machine, either.

I thought I might try another loaf, but after reading other reviews here where they say the paddle was stuck in the loaf, it's going back to the store. I'm not about to fish a metal paddle out my bread every time I bake a loaf.

Kids, this is why you don't buy your mom an appliance! :)

"Carbs here I come!" 2010-01-09
By Jeannie Reeves (Georgia)
While I have only had this machine for 5 days now. I have made so many things in it. I love this machine so much. I also am loving giving breads to friends and family. I have had no problems at all with this. I did read the manual completely and also read tips online. Educate yourself and you will make the best breads ever.
I have made, white bread, wheat bread, honey wheat bread, French Rolls, Soft pretzels, Rosemary bread, Jalapeno bread, cinnamon and raisin bread.

I set out to buy a Zojirushi with the two paddles but just could not bring myself to pay that much. But I did know I wanted a 2lb horizontal loaf that has many baking features. I am very happy with my purchase... I still miss the two paddles, but Im okay with it every time I pull a new loaf out of my bread machine.

"No need to ever purchase bread again" 2010-01-31
By Alex (NH)
Go this right out of the box and it was great. I got for a real good price and I really have used it a lot. There is nothing like the smell of fresh made bread in the morning the timer works great. Also use it to make Pizza Dough in all just remember to give yourself time. I now make my bread instead of getting it at the store.

"If It Weren't Defective, It Would Have Been Great." 2010-01-27
By MB
I received my Breadman & was eager to bake my 1st loaf. So I carefully measured all ingredients and pushed START. It worked great through the mixing, kneading & raising processes. However, my machine had a defective heating element. I ended up baking the loaf in my oven. It was very tasty - light, even textured - the perfect loaf. I think I would have rated this machine '5 stars' if the baking cycle had worked. I sent the machine back to Amazon. They were terrific! Easy returns, very helpful - no hassles.

"Not what I wanted" 2010-01-18
By Glorygirl (Augusta, GA, US)
Bought a TR520 at K-mart just before Christmas, present to myself! Have not been satisfied with the quality of the bread.Followed the recipes exactly and none of the loaves I've tried have been as good as they should be. My first one, a plain white on light setting , delayed setting, was a real flop. The second one, Cranberry-walnut recipe did better ( didn't do the delayed time)but it didn't have a "kneaded" type texture. Next was onion bread but I used a dried vegetable mix instead, again very coarse texture. I've used proper yeast and bread flour.
Also the smaller loaf came out as wide as the full 2# loaf, which was not what I expected. There should probably be an insert to use with the lesser amount of flour to get a proper size loaf. I'm seriously considering taking it back ( if K-mart will let me) I'll keep looking and reading reviews before another purchase. Was so looking forward to having 'home-made fresh bread'

"Buy a Different One" 2010-01-12
By A. Shaw (Okinawa, Japan)
I have had this bread machine for one year. At first I was very excited to start using it. I have used it a lot. Every loaf of bread I have made has been over cooked. The paddle is also difficult to remove to clean the machine. I am now looking for a better machine. It may be an inexpensive machine but it is a waste of money. Spend a little more money and buy a much better machine.

"Not as good as I thought." 2010-01-09
By Salehi Siamac (TULSA)
Unlike what some people here say how wonderful or great their bread comes out, mine do not come out right. I followed instructions. I check all the ingredients, tempreture, and measurment, but still the breads come out on the thick side and crusty. No I do not recommend this machine.

here are the pros and cons in my opinion:

Con: the display are hard to read and very faint. This should've been its first warning. If the manufacturer used inferior display, then everything else is probably not as good as its claim.

Con: No custom programming.

Con: As I mentioned above, loaves did not come out the way it should even when you follow the instruction as described in its manual. There must be something wrong with its programming cycle much like its programming display.

Con; I wish people would write honest feedback rather than trying to s@ck up. If your bread is comming out so great then described your method, bread texture,...etc. Do not just say it makes great bread (as if you are biased and want to sell this thing).

Pros; I'll let you know when I find one about it. I am not sure how other bread makers work, but this was not what I had expected based on some of these questionable positive feedbacks. I recommed everyone to read all the negative feedback first before buying.

Conclusion: would I recommed this to other? Not the way it is.

"Don't buy this bread maker" 2010-02-04
By D. Ruehlow
I've made hundreds of loaves of bread using various Breadman bread makers. I received an Oster 5838 as a Christmas present to replace one of my aging Breadmans. The Oster just can't make decent bread. If you use the correct amount of yeast, the bread falls during the bake cycle because it doesn't get hot enough to set the yeast bands. It turns out like a brick. If you use less yeast, the bread doesn't rise as much and it doesn't fall during baking, but because it doesn't rise as much as it should it turns out like a brick, again. It's a no-win situation. Don't buy it unless you like dense bread that resembles a brick, because that's all you're going to get.

"Over Proofed" 2010-02-01
By Y'Not Thompson (Oakland, CA)
First let me say, I am a formally trained pastry chef and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. I purchased this machine to assist me in some of my doughs as I have tendonitis. The dough mode is great! The baking modes, well, they leave something to be desired.

The proofing of the dough, when you allow it to rise, is too warm and the dough over proofs which leads to the bread to fall when baking.

"Happy man in the kitchen now" 2010-01-23
By Wanda L. Little
I surprised my significant-other with this breadmaker for Christmas. We're both in our mid 70s plus(had met Online four years ago and still going strong)but he had never used a breadmaker before...neither have I. But he can be good in the kitchen. He was delighted--but the first basic loaf he made didn't rise right.I think the yeast might have been on the shelve too long. He bought more yeast and flour and the next loaf came out perfect. He's tried his luck with expressbake bread and also more of the basic bread--and they have all turned out fine. The unit hasn't given him any problems and is easy to use. It makes delicious French toast--which is one of our favorites. We live in towns that are 100 miles apart...but he comes down for a lengthy visit every couple months. We've shared a lot of meals these past four years. Been thinking I would love having a breadmaker like this one. Nothing smells better than the aroma of fresh baked bread--or tastes better. As we get older, we find more pleasure in the simple things. Seniors have fun too...when we stay young at heart!

"Sunbeam Breadmaker" 2009-12-25
By J. Hood (Union Grove, AL)
I was so excited when my husband gave me this breadmaker for Christmas last year. I had been wanting one for several months. I trusted the reviews and asked for this one based on reviews and price. I guess you get what you pay for. It worked fine for about three months then starting resetting itself. Every time I try to use it, the machine will run for three minutes and stop. It will then reset itself to the "starting" settings. According to some web research, this is a common problem. I am very disappointed. You would think, even for $50, the appliance would last longer than three months. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

By patty cake (florida)
This machine has been around. It had scratches on the viewing window just like another reviewer mentioned. It was probably the same one. It came directly from sunbeam. I figured since it was such a good price and also with free shipping I would give it a go. It smelled like hot electrical wires while it was running. The main feature I was looking for was a light crust setting. The bread came out almost burned but only in places, not uniformly.I have owned 2 other bread machines(wore them out)so I have experience using them.I sent this back.Amazon refunded all my money plus paid for the return shipping. Amazon is great, Sunbeam? Well, what are they trying to pull?

"Great, inexpensive, reliable and stylish" 2009-12-16
By Phillip Jones (Cypress, TX USA)
I bought one of these from a local retailer 2 years ago after looking for a new bread machine.
I had gone through several bread machines over the years, starting with a Panasonic which lasted me for many years. When it died, I began my search.

I first bought a Cuisanart due to name recognition, styling and reported capabilities. It was a HORRIBLE machine...the fan blades were stricking the motor exhaust so I had to tilt it to even to run it without being completely intollerable....took it back.

Bought a Breadman...Ok, but, it was molded poorly so it didn't sit properly. It worked, but, was somewhat noisy and tended to get bogged down in whole wheat and the pan unlatched quite often during kneading.

I bought this little beauty for about $40 and figured that it couldn't be any worse...from the moment I turned it on I fell in love. It's quiet, the pan locks into place with a twisting motion, it handles some of the hardest doughs around and nearly every loaf comes out perfectly (although honestly I mainly use it to make dough for hand forming).

Last year I thought I'd finally break down and buy a Zo (ok, so it was really because I got a bonus)... I got a lemon, it didn't heat during the rising cycle causing lumpy bricks and then most unforgivably simply died all within 2 days of purchase....this was just unacceptable and just not worth the risk for the price (btw...I've since read that this isn't a terribly uncommon occurrance with the Zo's)

I have been so worried that my little baby might one day die, I recently bought a second one as a spare.

"How did we do without it?" 2010-02-03
By S. Sanders
We love our new bread machine ( Zojirushi mini). It is our first..... There are two of us in the house, and a small loaf every couple of days is perfect. It takes five minutes to put the ingredients in ( that will be less with practice), and out comes perfect bread. So far, the recipes that came with it have been flawless and delicious. The clean-up is easy. Hot water in the baking basket for three minutes, and the blade slips out. Easy. It takes up the space of a toaster, so no storage issues.
No more additives. Though it seemed expensive at time of purchase, it will clearly pay for itself in a year. We will never buy store bread again. Never.
Let's see..... Healthy, easy, economical......... not a tough call.

"The perfect breadmaker" 2010-02-02
By C. Falkner (St. Augustine, Florida United States)
This is my third breadmaker. The last two were OK, but that's all I could say for them. The breadpans always go first. Non-stick coating starts compromising after the first couple of loafs of bread, and its hard to get all the bread out of them after you're through using them. You never actually get them clean.
I'm single, and I never quite use the whole loaf before it starts going bad, so, I decided to look for a smaller breadmaker this time, and I was going to pick one with a better pan, while I was at it.
This little Zojirushi is perfect. All I can say is Wow! The pan is sturdy with a quality finish, and the rest of the breadmaker is built just as well.
The bread is more consistent in texture from the bottom of the loaf to the top, and its really quiet. Nothing not to like here.
Its a little pricey, but its worth the money.

This compact breadmaker makes wonderful little loafs of joy. I have had it for about a month now and make on average two loafs a week. I haven't found any flaws yet. As long as you remove the bread while it's still hot the blade won't stick inside the bread. Overall a fantastic breadmaker.

"Best. hands down!" 2010-01-30

I used to own a different maker's breadmachine. It was all right, but it was incredibly loud and also huge. I also used to bake bread all by my hands, too. This mini is amazing. It is so compact that it does not take any space on my kitchen counter. It is so quiet that I can set timer before going to bed. The functions are easy. I am soooooo happy about this purchase. I am so glad I chose this machine. I already started to modify the recipes that came with the machine but they all worked so far. I recommend this machine to anyone. Do not wasted your money on cheaper machines! Buy this one. You won't regret.

"Great product" 2010-02-04
By S. Chapman (Florida)
This is my first foray into bread making. This bread maker got great reviews so I purchased it from Amazon and I'm so glad I did. So easy to use, to clean and makes great bread! My five year old told me the cinnamon raisin bread I made was better than the bread from the store. I like the little reminder beep to add fruits/nuts, etc. It has a small footprint compared to other machines I've seen. I'm very happy with this bread maker and I'm looking forward to making many loaves of delicious bread.

"Unhappy baker" 2010-02-04
By Rebeca I. Oneal (virginia, USA)
I can not understand why all the good reviews about this machine are about, I bought it based on the reviews but my results are far from satisfactory. So far we've baked three loaf of bread and not a single one was even okey.
Red mill, regular and cinnamon bread, also Pamela's sandwich bread, what a disaster. I wont even feed it to
my dog... One was under baked, one did not raise, and the last one was hard as a rock. Are they any suggestions?
Gluten free flours tent to be a bit dry but come on I was under the impression that the machine could deliver
decent quality. We follow the bag instructions, measuring and leaving the egg at room temperature, we used
oil instead of butter looking for a semi-soft loaf of bread, added the liquid first and the dry last, still
can not understand what we are doing wrong. The machine seems to be in good shape working properly. I am
really tired of paying the high price of gluten free breads, no having a choice, I seek help, ideas or comments.

"Breadman bread maker" 2010-01-31
By Don Dudley
I excitedly opened my new Breadman bread maker. My son has been diagnosed with food allergies that means we need to make most of his foods from scratch. This bread maker was going to be a blessing. I opened it, all the pieces appeared there. I followed the instructions to wash it and run it through a quick cycle empty to burn off chemicals. It was noisy, but appeared to be doing it's thing. Then I loaded it with (expensive, specialized) ingredients, set it and pushed start.... nothing. No noise, nothing. The timer was counting down, so I let it go. I restarted it two more times and inspected it to make sure I had the bread pan properly installed - I did. Nothing. I ended up attempting to finish the loaf off by hand, cooking in the oven, in an attempt to save the ingredients.
My husband looked up the reviews and saw that many people had had trouble with the Breadman.
I hope that Amazon "will do the right thing" when it comes to returning it and getting my money back. (Maybe they shouldn't work with this company anymore.)
I do NOT recommend the Breadman TR875 Stainless Steel Breadmaker.

By C. Dedmon (North Grafton, MA United States)
The manufacturer a) will not honor your warranty if you purchase through this site (amazon), and b) will not provide you with replacement parts should you lose or break a paddle, or anything else.

Buyer beware. If you don't want a $100 loaf of bread, I'd buy something that is sure to last a long time.

This machine does only work sometime. Two loafs came out OK ,then the next two awful, did not rise at all. I am very disappointed.

This machine does everything it says it will do, and I have not even used it. I bought the machine, had 10 year old bread flour in storage and someone else makes bread about every three days. Good crust and internal texture. Blade removal tool makes easy and safe removal of occasional blade sticking inside bread. Almost no cleaning required. Not every loaf was perfect, but they are getting more consistant with experience. Good value. Fast delivery.

"Great pan shape & size" 2010-01-30
By Tasha Kitty (Eugene, OR USA)
If I rated the machine alone, I would give it a 5, but I'm taking a star off because of the manual. I just bought this machine and made a loaf right away. I used a recipe (Anadama oatmeal) from my previous Breadman model so I could compare. It turned out great! The 2 pound loaf filled the pan and was very uniform and delicious. I like the shape of the pan better than the old vertical loaf, which made too big of a slice to fit all the way in the toaster. This pan creates a perfectly sized slice, just like a store-bought loaf. Best of both worlds: I can make healthy bread with no preservatives or chemicals and still have the size of slices I want. Most of the other horizontal pans I looked at were wider and shorter, because they only have one paddle. With two paddles, this machine can have a better shaped pan.

Just be careful about using the recipes in the manual. As reported here already, some of them are way off. The recipe for the raisin bread has already been mentioned, but the recipe for Garlic bread is even worse. It's so bad it's hilarious! For a 2 pound loaf, it calls for 3 tbsp of flour, but 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of salt! Oh, and for butter or margarine, use 1. It doesn't say 1 of what, just 1. So I guess you could use 1 of whatever measurement you want. Funny. I also wish they included the durations of each cycle, so you could check how much it's rising before it gets knocked down again for example.
